Phillip Kissel, M.D., a San Luis Obispo-based neurosurgeon, has been elected Chief of Staff at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for 2013. He assumes the leadership of the nearly 400 member medical staff at San Luis Obispo County’s largest hospital from James Hannah, M.D.
Dr. Kissel is board certified in neurosurgery and joined the Sierra Vista medical staff in 1989. He earned his medical degree at University of Chicago and completed an internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and a Residency at UC Davis.
William Sogaard, M.D., a hospitalist, was elected vice chief of staff and Ross Michel, M.D., medical director of the Sierra Vista’s Intensive Care Unit, will serve as secretary/treasurer.
Members at large include Claudia Hackethal, M.D., a neonatologist in the Sierra Vista Newborn Intensive Care Unit; Joseph Kuntze, M.D., a urologist and immediate past Chief of Surgery, William Burnette, M.D., medical director of Sierra Vista’s radiology department and Sharon Peach, an anesthesiologist.
Each was elected to a one-year term and assumed their duties effective January 1, 2013.
