Cigarette smoke is now a thing of the past at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. On January 1, 2009, the entire campus became tobacco-free. As part of an official kick-off celebration to announce the new policy, Rick Ford, Director of Plant Operations, ceremoniously hauled away both hospital smoking enclosures (AKA Butt Huts).
The ban prohibits smoking and the use of tobacco products anywhere on property that is owned, leased or operated by Sierra Vista. Administrators believe this initiative is the best course of action in order to protect patients, visitors and employees from the harmful effects of tobacco and second hand smoke and promote healthy lifestyle practices.
