The annual Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center service awards celebration brought together more than 100 hospital employees, recognized for their dedication and outstanding leadership.   The 2012 Sierra Vista Leader of the Year award went to Maria Rodriguez, a physical therapist in the rehabilitation services department. Rodriguez was chosen for her ability to initiate positive change, educate others and work collaboratively with her peers.

Rodriguez has worked at Sierra Vista for two years. She earned her doctorate in physical therapy from Boston University and last year received certification as a neurologic specialist. She is a clinical instructor for physical therapy interns at Sierra Vista and has presented several educational talks to the community.  Outside of the hospital, Rodriguez most recently served as the director of volunteers for the San Luis Obispo marathon.

Other employees recognized for their outstanding service include:

  • Professionalism:                    Oscar Rodriguez (EVS)
  • Career Advancement:             John Kellett (Labor & Delivery)
  • Mentor:                                    Mekala Camp (Admitting)
  • Innovator:                                Jim Kuenzinger (Radiology)
  • Patient Advocate:                    Christie Ward (Emergency Services)

The annual service awards dinner culminates Hospital Week festivities, which celebrates all Sierra Vista employees for their compassion and commitment to quality patient care throughout the year.
