Maggie Cox, owner of San Luis Obispo-based advertising and public relations agency Barnett Cox & Associates, has been elected Chair of the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center Governing Board for 2009. Cox has been on the Sierra Vista Governing Board for the past five years and has served on several committees in addition to being instrumental in helping provide leadership in the area of strategic direction.

Phillip Kissel, M.D., a neurosurgeon in San Luis Obispo, was elected Vice Chair and Kris Yetter, General Manager and President of Promega Biosciences of San Luis Obispo, was elected as Secretary/Treasurer.

Newly elected to three year terms for 2009 are Danny Lickness, M.D., an obstetrician/gynecologist in San Luis Obispo; W. David Pelham, President and Superintendent of Cuesta College; Eric Schwefler, a shareholder with the accountancy firm Barbich, Longcrier, Hooper & King; and, Otto Schueckler, M.D., a San Luis Obispo orthopedic surgeon.
Continuing Governing Board Members include: Rene Bravo, M.D. (a San Luis Obispo pediatrician), Phillip Borgardt, M.D. (owner of the SLO Aging Institute), David Juhnke (Managing Partner of San Luis Obispo law firm Sinsheimer, Juhnke, Lebens & McIvor), Michael Morris (Chairman of the Board of local law firm Andre, Morris & Buttery), Patrick Mullen (an executive with Pacific Gas & Electric), Anita Robinson (President of Mission Community Bank), Vance Rodgers, M.D. (Chief of Staff elect at Sierra Vista and a San Luis Obispo gastroenterologist), Eric Schultz, M.D. (a San Luis Obispo pulmonologist and critical care medicine specialist) and Elizabeth “Biz” Steinberg (President of the Economic Opportunity Commission of San Luis Obispo).

Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center is a 165-bed, acute-care provider of tertiary services that has been serving the Central Coast of California for the past 50 years.
Since that time the hospital has grown into a leading provider of high-level medical services in San Luis Obispo County. Sierra Vista has added many advanced services as the community has grown and today houses the County’s only neurosurgery program, high risk pregnancy program, has the County’s only dedicated Pediatric Unit as well as the only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between Santa Barbara and Salinas. The Birth Center at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center provides a comprehensive range of obstetric and infant services. The center includes labor-delivery-recovery (LDR) suites and a community-level newborn nursery. Sierra Vista also offers comprehensive, patient-centered, family-oriented care for patients with cardiac disease, neurological disorders, orthopedic surgeries, spinal cord and brain injuries, stroke and arthritis.
Through its affiliation with California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Sierra Vista has been selected “The Choice of Cal Poly Athletics.” The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation’s oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.
