Infection Prevention Award

Claire Grantham, RN, infection prevention nurse at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, was one of 11 infectious disease nurses recognized nationally in the annual “Who’s Who in Infection Prevention” by Infection Control Today, a national trade publication. Grantham has worked at Sierra Vista for the past 16 years.

Grantham was recognized for “single-handedly creating the infection prevention program at Sierra Vista.” She serves as a resource for both the clinical and medical staffs with the difficult infection issues that occur. She also spearheads Sierra Vista’s flu vaccination clinic that annually provides more than 800 free flu shots to the community.

“Claire has made it her personal crusade to administer flu shots to as many of the hospital staff, medical staff, volunteers and members in the community as humanly possible,” said Nicki Edwards, Sierra Vista’s director of quality and risk management. “As a result of her daily monitoring of hospital devices and her education of staff, both adult and pediatric, our patients experience far fewer infections at a rate well below benchmarks set the Centers for Disease Control.”
