Physicians at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center will now be able to monitor the labor progress of their patients from home.
The hospital has successfully launched a new electronic medical record and clinical documentation system in their maternal labor and delivery unit. Now, once a patient is admitted, physicians and nurses will instantly gain access to real-time fetal monitoring from any computer, anytime of day.
This means that physicians will be able to give orders and reassure expectant mothers quickly and accurately, based on up-to-the-minute surveillance, even when that physician is outside of the hospital.
In addition to providing staff with quality patient data, the new system will gather information from all aspects of care to create a single medical record for each patient. This uniform documentation will help reduce medical errors and allow for a smoother discharge from the hospital.
The establishment of uniform documentation meets the standards of care practices from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and American Academy of Pediatrics. It also supports reporting requirements from the Joint Commission.
