San Luis Obispo (September 27, 2010) – 3M today announced that Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, is a finalist in the company’s “Innovation Award” Contest. Starting today, through October 8, the community is invited to visit www.3mhaicontest.com and vote for Sierra Vista or any of the 13 other finalists. Each site visitor may vote for one contest entry once per day.
Sierra Vista submitted their recently filmed hospital music video “I’m Gonna Wash My Hands” as their innovative infection prevention practice. The video features employees washing their hands to the tune of the popular Beatles song, “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” The adapted song is performed by the Bluz Dogz, a local band featuring Dr. Harold Segal and Sierra Vista nurses Linda Martin and Bud McCabe. The lyrics encourage people to wash their hands to help stop the spread of infection.
The winning program will be determined by the one that receives the most votes. The creators of the winning program will receive a $5,000 educational grant from 3M to continue their innovative initiative. They will also receive an expense-paid trip to 3M to meet with the Infection Prevention Division, take a tour of 3M’s renowned Innovation Center and participate in educational opportunities with 3M’s Infection Prevention experts. Five runners-up will each receive a $1,000 educational grant. The winning video and runners up will be announced on Monday, October 18, 2010 at the start of International Infection Prevention Week.
