Family Centered Birth
Private Labor & Delivery Suites: These single-patient rooms are appointed with amenities to make you feel at home throughout your birthing process. Each room includes a flat screen television, wireless internet access and a sleeper chair for your partner or coach.
NEW Private Recovery Rooms: The expansion of the Mother-Baby Unit is now complete! This means the Sierra Vista Birth Center provides private rooms to all postpartum mother-baby couplets. The addition of these rooms gives new families the privacy and space they need to bond.
Special Celebration Meal: To celebrate the birth of your newborn baby, you and your coach are invited to have a quiet meal before you leave the hospital. This meal is selected from a specially prepared menu.
Infant Security: Your infant’s protection is a priority at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. In order to ensure the safety of your newborn, the hospital utilizes a highly sophisticated infant security system.
Breastfeeding Friendly: The Birth Center at Sierra Vista is committed to the health and well-being of all newborns and new mothers. That is why we've made it a priority to encourage breastfeeding in our hospital and give new mothers the tools and resources they need to keep breastfeeding once they've taken their baby home.
Deluxe Hydrotherapy Labor Tub: Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center gives
pregnant mothers another option when it comes to pain management. Hydrotherapy labor tubs utilize the soothing properties of warm water immersion to relax the patient and help ease patient discomfort and anxiety. Soaking in a warm tub has been shown to be an effective way to work with contractions and ease back pain during labor. The water allows the patient to be buoyant, relaxing her body and helping to progress her labor.
Unlike inflatable tubs used in other facilities, this permanent tub is ergonomically designed to support a patient's back, while allowing for complete access to the mother. The depth of the tub provides total immersion of the patient, while hand and foot grips give bracing and support. There are also three removable doors for easy entry and exit of the tub and seating for patient and partner.
Birth & Baby Classes: Babies don't come with a manual, but that doesn't mean you don't have questions about their entrance into this world or how to care for them once they've arrived! Certified, experienced childbirth and lactation specialists at Sierra Vista offer a variety of education classes to help prepare you, your coach and your family for the birth of your new baby. These classes are designed to help you feel more confident about what to expect with childbirth and parenting. Pre-registration is required for all classes and tours.
High Risk Capabilities
Nobody expects difficulties in childbirth, but the Birth Center team of specialists at Sierra Vista is trained in the early detection of complications and can take steps to avoid them before they become problems. In addition, our two operating rooms, located within the labor and delivery unit, allow physicians to perform cesarean sections quickly and efficiently. Anesthesiologists are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide pain management to laboring mothers.
Vaginal Birth after Cesarean: The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists now encourages women who have had a prior cesarean section to try natural childbirth. If you and your physician decide that a VBAC delivery is an option for your birth plan, Sierra Vista is fully equipped to accommodate your choice. Anesthesiologists are on-site during all VBAC labors.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Sierra Vista is proud to offer the only Level III NICU in San Luis Obispo County. Providing critical care services for the hospital’s tiniest patients, new parents can find comfort in knowing their infant will receive top quality care quickly and without having to leave their hometown.
24 Hour Maternal Transport Program: Sierra Vista accepts transport of high-risk patients from all hospitals within the community, from Lompoc to King City.
Pre-Registration
All obstetric patients should pre-register at least 12 to 16 weeks prior to their due date. This will allow the hospital to verify insurance coverage and counsel the patient on various payment options and government programs, if needed. Validating insurance and billing information prior to the delivery date can help reduce a patient’s anxiety upon arrival to the hospital and also allow them to be directly admitted.
